Bayern Munich restored their six-point Bundesliga lead with a 3-0 victory at lowly Werder Bremen on Saturday, while Eintracht Frankfurt ended a run of nine winless matches with a 3-0 triumph over Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Borussia Dortmund cut the gap to Bayern to three points after a 4-0 win against Mainz on Friday, but the German record champions hit back thanks to Harry Kane and Leon Goretzka.
Third-placed Hoffenheim bounced back from a defeat to Bayern in a 3-0 win against Freiburg, while Bayer Leverkusen are back into the Champions League spots after prevailing 4-0 against St Pauli.
Elsewhere, SV Hamburg claimed a 3-2 comeback win against Union Berlin. Later on Saturday, VfB Stuttgart host Cologne.
Unstoppable Kane
Kane has only failed to score in six out of 22 Bundesliga matches this season and with his brace against Bremen he now has 26 goals in the league.
The England captain broke the deadlock from the spot in the 22nd minute after Lennart Karl was fouled inside the box.
The young Bayern talent beautifully made his way into the box, leaving three players behind, but was brought down by Senne Lynen before taking aim at the goal.
"I'm very sorry, we didn't need that. We had started the game well," Lynen told broadcaster Sky.
Kane completed his brace just three minutes later after Goretzka's pressure forced Bremen to lose the ball. Luis Diaz collected it before serving the forward, who thought for a second before striking the ball into the net.
Goretzka, who will leave at the end of the season, collected a cross squeezed over by Alphonso Davies and added a goal to his name in the 70th.
"It's part of being professional to always give your best. There were ups and downs, but the positive phases certainly overshadowed the negative ones," Goretzka said of his Bayern career.
Kane has a contract with Bayern until June 2027, but the club are already working to extend his deal.
"No stress. He should keep going like that. As long as he and his family feel good in Munich, he can stay here," Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund said.
Frankfurt finally win
Goals from Nathaniel Brown in the 24th and Ayoube Amaimouni-Echghouyab in the 34th put Frankfurt on track to claim the three points against Gladbach.
Ansgar Knauff added a third in the 75th as Frankfurt finally celebrated their first victory across all competitions since December 13.
Wins also for Leverkusen and Hoffenheim
Jarell Quansah and Patrik Schick gave Leverkusen a comfortable 2-0 lead against St Pauli before the break.
Edmond Tapsoba's header and Ernest Poku's effort from outside the box meant the hosts remained unbeaten for a fourth consecutive league game.
Hoffenheim saw their run of five straight wins end last weekend in a defeat to Bayern, but bounced back against Freiburg despite Andrej Kramaric having an early goal disallowed.
They were only on target again in the 46th through Fisnik Asllani and goals from Ozan Kabak and Valentin Gendrey secured the three points.
