CF Montreal trades Canadian Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty to Red Bulls

Canada’s Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty is on the move once again and is set to play under one of his former teammates.

CF Montreal traded the Canadian fullback to the New York Red Bulls in exchange for Venezuelan midfielder Wikelman “Wiki” Carmona, the team announced Monday.

Marshall-Rutty, who came up through the Toronto FC academy system and debuted with the team in 2020 as a 16-year-old, will now reunite with former teammate Michael Bradley, who manages the Red Bulls. The two crossed paths in Toronto until Bradley’s retirement in 2023.

The 21-year-old spent the majority of the 2025 season with Charlotte FC on loan from Montreal. He made 29 appearances with the club and tallied four assists in all competitions.

A native of Brampton, Ont., Marshall-Rutty was traded to CF Montreal in August of 2024 but only made 16 appearances with the club without any goal contributions before being sent out on loan.

Seen as one of Canada’s bright young talents early in his career after becoming the youngest player to sign a first-team contract with Toronto FC at just 15 years old, Marshall-Rutty has only one cap to his name with Canada’s B Team. He came on as a substitute in an international friendly against Guatemala on Jan. 17 of this year.

Carmona, meanwhile, is a 22-year-old midfielder who has five goals and six assists in 102 career MLS games, all with New York. He had 39 appearances with one goal and one assist across all competitions with the Red Bulls in 2025.
