Real Madrid megastar a doubt for Benfica clash, still not at 100% fitness – report

In a rather concerning bit of development, L’Equipe reports that Real Madrid superstar is ‘highly doubtful’ for tomorrow’s UEFA Champions League clash against SL Benfica.

Real Madrid take on the Portuguese giants tomorrow at the Santiago Bernabeu in the second leg of their Champions League knockout playoff tie.

The Spanish capital heavyweights are already without important players like Jude Bellingham, Eder Militao, and Rodrygo, while Dani Ceballos is also out injured.

Mbappe not 100%

Now, it is being suggested that Mbappe’s involvement against Jose Mourinho’s side at the Bernabeu tomorrow is unclear.

The Frenchman is still dealing with the after-effects of his knee injury that he sustained back in December, with the report claiming that the France captain is still not back at 100% fitness.

In fact, it is further stated that the 27-year-old superstar was forced to stop training during today’s sessions due to the problem.

With the pain from his knee injury still persisting, Real Madrid could decide to rest Mbappe tomorrow against Benfica, even though manager Alvaro Arbeloa insisted otherwise in his press conference.

“He’s ready to play tomorrow, which is the most important thing right now. It’s been several weeks and everyone knows that, but I want to highlight his effort and commitment,” he said.

While Real Madrid go into the game with a slender 1-0 advantage from the first leg, things will be anything but easy for them tomorrow. And, if Mbappe is unavailable, it will come as a huge blow for the hosts.

The Frenchman happens to be Real Madrid’s top goalscorer this season, but did put in a lacklustre performance against Osasuna last weekend, suggesting that he could do with a breather.
