GIRLS BASKETBALL Preston High (9-7) split the first two games to begin a stretch of seven games in nine days. The Knights defeated Robert C. Byrd 46-38 on Monday before falling to Lincoln 56-46 on Tuesday. Camdyn Metheny led PHS to the victory over the Eagles with 12 points, nine assists, five rebounds, and two steals, going 5 of 6 from the free-throw line. The Knights shot 40 % from the field as a team and will return home to The Castle on Thursday to host Fairmont Senior at 7:00 p.m.
BOYS BASKETBALL University used a late rally to steal a victory from South Charleston on Tuesday in the Country Roads Shootout at West Virginia State University in Charleston. The Hawks outscored the Black Eagles 28-17 in the second half after trailing by eight at the break to win 51-48. Kaleil Lewis led UHS with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Luke Byrer added 11 points, going 6 for 6 from the free-throw line. The Hawks will welcome Robert C. Byrd to Baker's Ridge on Friday evening for their next contest.
Clay-Battelle bounced back from a 59-49 defeat to cross-county rival Trinity Christian on Thursday last week with a 70-48 victory over River (Oh.) in an OVAC consolation game on Tuesday night. The Cee-Bees improved to 12-3 on the 2025-2026 season and will travel to Oak Glen (AA) on Friday night.
