Stephen Curry issued a public apology to Jonathan Kuminga after a viral Warriors story gained traction in the wake of his trade.
Jonathan Kuminga was traded to the Atlanta Hawks alongside Buddy Hield in a deal that brought Kristaps Porzingis to Golden State.
Attention quickly shifted to an ESPN report that outlined tension between Kuminga and the organisation.
ESPN report fuels social media storm
The report characterised the relationship as a relatively cordial cold war and detailed internal frustrations.
One claim stated that someone in Kuminga’s camp had been accused of taking too much food from the family room, with sources describing the dispute as petty.
After a social media post amplified that element of the story, Kuminga reacted with a series of laughing emojis and a rolling eyes emoji before writing “What else?”
The reaction circulated widely and drew a response from Curry.
Curry backs former teammate publicly
Curry replied directly beneath Kuminga’s comment in a show of support. “I’m sorry, bro, this is ridiculous. Go be great!”
Hield also commented under the post with a tongue-in-cheek remark. “They’re lying, it was Jimmy.”
Kuminga averaged 12.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game during his four and a half seasons with the Warriors.
With both Kuminga and Porzingis recovering from injury at the time of the trade, the spotlight briefly turned from on-court matters to the nature of Kuminga’s exit.
