Liverpool target takes a step closer to summer transfer

The Reds have a long-held admiration for Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers, and were once again linked with a move for the Englishman recently.

Villa’s valuation sits at around £100 million, and a deal has never looked straightforward, but now it appears that the Villains are preparing for life without Rogers this summer.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Unai Emery’s side are eyeing a £65 million move for Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White, who is ‘almost certain’ to leave Forest if they face relegation.

The report does also state that Forest could consider a sale for a significant fee even if they avoid the drop.

Gibbs-White to Villa opens the door for Rogers to Anfield

Although Rogers is well-established at Villa, Gibbs-White is a player of a similar profile and the pair would likely be competing for a spot in the starting XI.

Villa have well-documented issues with the PSR, and will likely find themselves in the position of having to sell before than can sanction such an expensive arrival in the summer.

There are of course other players that the Villains could sell, but Rogers has stepped up his game this season and a move away from Villa Park feels increasingly likely.

Liverpool are expected to continue to rebuild their squad, with a deal for Jeremy Jacquet already in place for the summer, and Gibbs-White making the move to Villa could be exactly what is needed to get Rogers through the door at Anfield.
