Mark McMorris will get a chance to compete in his best event at the Winter Olympics.
The Canadian snowboarder has been cleared to get back on his snowboard for the men’s slopestyle competition following a hard crash in training for the big air event last week, the Canadian Olympic Committee said Friday.
McMorris suffered a concussion, bone bruising near his pelvis and an abdominal strain in the crash during big air training on Feb. 4, the COC said. He then dropped out of big air qualifying.
The Regina native was back on his snowboard for training Friday.
“Feeling really good, feeling thankful to be boarding again. Had a lot of fun today,” McMorris said, per the COC. “It’s awesome that we have so many days of practice.
“That was day one, and I feel like I made some good strides. Then, yeah, just slowly building my confidence back up.”

McMorris has won bronze medals in slopestyle the past three Olympics.
Slopestyle qualifying is Monday and the final is Wednesday.
“The injury doesn’t change the goals,” he said. “The goal is always just to ride to the best of my ability, and if I do that, I think I’ll be in a really good place.”
