New boss Maamria ready to 'help' beleaguered Barrow

Barrow head coach Dino Maamria says he is out to "help" his new group of players to lead them to safety in League Two.

Maamria was appointed as replacement for Paul Gallagher, who left the club earlier this week after just five matches in charge.

The Bluebirds lost every single one of those games to sit 22nd in the table, one place and three points above the relegation zone.

Maamria is the third permanent boss at Holker Street this season - with Andy Whing having been in charge before Christmas - and he knows he has to get his message across quickly.

"The players need help and I'm here to help them," he told BBC Radio Cumbria. "They need help and they need clarity, to simplify things for them.

"They need a way of what we're going to do when we've got the ball, what we're going to do when we've not got the ball and what we're going to do at set-pieces, defending and attacking."

This is Maamria's fourth post with an EFL club, but his first since leaving Burton Albion in December 2023.

Tunisia-born Maamria has used that break for family time, but he has also visited European clubs like Champions League winners Paris St-Germain, Bundesliga duo Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig and also Bath Rugby to expand his knowledge and leadership experience.

And he will have to use that on a group of players that will be listening to a fourth voice in just two months.

"The talent is there," he said. "They are not bad players. They just need some confidence, belief and clarity.

"They had a tough period. They're part of it but it's not fully their fault. They just need some help."
