Raiders 2026 coaching staff: Get to know Mike McCoy

Thursday, new Las Vegas Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak made his first known hire to his coaching staff by making Mike McCoy assistant head coach. Let’s get to know McCoy more:

Last job:

McCoy was a senior offensive assistant and then finished the season as the interim head coach of the Tennessee Titans.

Coaching experience:

He’s been an NFL coach since 2000. He was the head coach of the San Diego Chargers from 2003-16 where he went 27-37. He was 2-9 in Tennessee last season. He has six seasons experience as an offensive coordinator.

Connection to Kubiak:

McCoy was the offensive coordinator of the Denver Broncos in 2017, while Kubiak was an offensive assistant.

Age:
He will turn 54 in April.

Another No. 1?

Last season, McCoy worked with No.1 overall draft pick Cam Ward with the Titans. This year, he is expected to work with No.1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza.

Playing career:

The Utah product bounced around several NFL teams as a deep backup quarterback from 1995-99.

Why he was hired:

His history with Kubiak helped. McCoy is an experienced NFL coach who will help Kubiak as he begins his head-coaching career.
