PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — The Mets' first official spring training workouts have yet to take place and the club already has itsir first major injury concern of 2026.
Francisco Lindor is being evaluated by a hand specialist for a stress reaction in the hamate bone in his left hand, Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Stearns said that it is possible that Lindor might need surgery, with a six-week recovery timeline that would see him back right before Opening Day.
"He's had soreness, frankly, off and on there for a couple of years, and he's usually able to grind through it and he's done it," Stearns said. "I don't know when he first felt it, but I think it just persisted to the point that he felt like he should say something about it. Once we examined it a little bit more yesterday, our medical staff determined that he should see a specialist."
The Mets president of baseball operations said that a determination on whether Lindor will undergo surgery would be made by Wednesday.
