Was it cross-country running or skiing?
Sweden’s Ebba Andersson did a bit of both on Saturday to help her team win an Olympic silver medal in the women’s 4×7.5-kilometre relay at Milano Cortina 2026.
Favoured Sweden was leading the race entering the second leg when Andersson fell three times in slushy snow. On the last fall, she took a forward tumble and her ski fell off.
With the ski broken, Andersson had to run with one leg and ski with the other for about 30 seconds before a ski technician could get to her. What’s more, a technician also fell in the chaotic scene.
The wild scene basically ended Swedish gold-medal hopes, but Frida Karlsson and Jonna Sundling followed Andersson and got the country into the silver-medal spot.
Norway won gold, finishing 50.9 seconds ahead of Sweden. Finland took bronze.
Canada’s Alison Mackie, Jasmine Drolet, Liliane Gagnon and Sonjaa Schmidt finished eighth.
