Belgium midfielder Kevin de Bruyne said he is looking forward to facing Mohamed Salah again when Belgium open their 2026 World Cup campaign against Egypt on Monday.

Kevin de Bruyne said he had played against Salah for around 10 years during their time on opposite sides of the Premier League rivalry between Manchester City and Liverpool.

He said Salah was “a really nice guy” and added that it would be good to compete against him again.

The midfielder added that Belgium expect a difficult match against Egypt, describing the Pharaohs as a physical and well-organised side before the opener in Seattle.

Belgium enter the tournament with de Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku and Thibaut Courtois still central to the squad, alongside younger players including Jeremy Doku, Amadou Onana and Charles De Ketelaere.

Egypt are making their fourth World Cup appearance and are still seeking their first win at the tournament. The Pharaohs beat Belgium 2-1 in the last meeting between the two teams, a friendly in November 2022.

Nestory Irankunda and Connor Metcalfe scored the goals and rookie goalkeeper Patrick Beach produced a string of crucial saves to help secure a famous Australian victory at Vancouver's BC Place Stadium.

Vice-captain Jackson Irvine was also dropped in favour of 21-year-old midfielder Paul Okon-Engstler in a starting XI that featured 10 World Cup debutants.

Both of those selections proved to be inspired, with Beach pulling off a string of fine saves to deny Turkiye, who dominated possession and territory but could not find a way past the Australian goalkeeper.

Turkiye -- playing in the World Cup for the first time since finishing third at the 2002 tournament -- arrived in North America dreaming of making a serious run in the knockout rounds.

But their talented team made up largely of players who regularly compete in the European Champions League were unable to get to grips with a well-organised Socceroos line-up.

One of Turkiye's best chances came in the 27th minute when Real Madrid's Arda Guler forced a smart save from Beach with a rasping shot.

Just seconds after that chance though Australia took the lead.

Beach picked out Okon-Engstler deep in the Australia half, and the 21-year-old midfielder pumped the ball upfield for Irankunda.

The Australia winger still had plenty to do but a clever first touch took him clear of the covering defence before he tucked away a low finish.

Irankunda celebrated by sprinting to the edge of the pitch and pretending to box the corner flag, mimicking former Australia skipper Tim Cahill's signature goal celebration.

Turkiye thought they had equalised three minutes later after Abdulkerim Bardakci's piledriver from outside of the area hurtled towards goal.

But Beach got the slightest of fingertips to divert the ball onto the post and Australia survived again.

Beach kept up his commanding form in the second half, turning a Guler free-kick wide for a corner on 57 minutes.

With Beach continuing to make save after save, Australia made the game safe in the 75th minute when Metcalfe picked the ball up in midfield, advanced on goal and shot home from 25 yards.

The win leaves Australia level on three points with Group D leaders the United States, with the two teams due to meet in Seattle on Friday.

Doha, Qatar: The 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum will host live screenings of Qatar's upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 group-stage matches, inviting football fans to come together and support the national team.

"Cheer on Team Qatar at the FIFA World Cup 2026," the museum said in a post on social media.

The first screening will be held for Qatar's Group B clash against Canada on Friday, June 19, at 1am (Qatar time). Fans can also watch Qatar take on Bosnia and Herzegovina on Wednesday, June 24, at 10pm (Qatar time).

Screenings will take place on Level 7 of the museum's Access Building and are open to the public free of charge. No prior registration is required.

وقال بوضياف: نستعد بشكل جيد للغاية لمواجهة المنتخب الكندي، والجهاز الفني واللاعبون يعملون بتركيز كبير من أجل الوصول إلى الجاهزية المطلوبة قبل المباراة. ندرك تماماً أهمية هذه المواجهة بالنسبة لنا، ونعلم أنها ستكون محطة مهمة في مشوارنا خلال البطولة.

The clash at Seattle Stadium is expected to play a significant role in shaping the group standings. Belgium arrive as favourites not only for the match but also to finish top of the group, while Egypt are widely viewed as contenders for the second qualification spot alongside Iran, with New Zealand considered outsiders.

Although the two sides have never met at a World Cup, previous encounters offer encouragement for the Egyptians. The teams have faced each other four times, with Egypt winning three matches and Belgium claiming one victory. Their most recent meeting came in November 2022, when Egypt defeated Belgium 2-1 in Kuwait ahead of the Qatar World Cup.

Egypt enter the tournament under the guidance of national football icon Hossam Hassan, who has overseen a remarkable revival since taking charge in 2024.
