49ers Release DL Givens, Sample

The San Francisco 49ers have released defensive linemen Kevin Givens and Cameron Sample in corresponding moves after signing receiver KhaDarel Hodge and defensive lineman Ogbo Okoronkwo.

Kevin Givens, 29, was with the 49ers since entering the league as an undrafted free agent in 2019. He appeared in 70 career games for the franchise, tallying 8.0 sacks with 18 tackles for loss and 18 quarterback hits. Sample joined the 49ers in April on a one-year deal after spending his first five seasons with the Bengals. In 2025, he tallied 17 total tackles with 2.0 sacks, two TFLs, and six QB hits in 14 games with two starts.

The team's first preseason game will take place next Thursday against Tennessee in Santa Clara. mchezo.co.za
