Blue Jays Place Alejandro Kirk on IL, Call Up Brandon Valenzuela

The Blue Jays placed two‑time All‑Star catcher Alejandro Kirk on the 10‑day injured list after a dislocated and fractured thumb sustained in the 10th inning of a 5‑4 loss to the Chicago White Sox. The club recalled Brandon Valenzuela from Triple‑A Buffalo, who is projected to share catching duties with Tyler Heineman while Kirk recovers.

Kirk, 27, will see hand specialist Dr. Thomas Graham on Monday to determine whether surgery is needed. Valenzuela, 25, has yet to debut in the majors but is batting .200 with one homer in four games at Buffalo.
