Brewers' Manager Murphy Trades Pancakes for Tortoise in Viral Moment

Brewers manager Pat Murphy was caught taking a pocket pancake during a dugout interview, then swapped it for a Sulcata tortoise in a pregame interview, creating a viral moment.

During a nationally televised game in August, Brewers manager Pat Murphy was seen taking a pocket pancake from his hoodie during a dugout interview, a moment that quickly went viral. The team later turned the incident into a marketing gimmick, selling “Murph’s Pocket Pancakes” at home games.

When the Brewers were set to play the Royals on Apple TV, Murphy was told “no pocket pancakes” could be carried, so he presented a Sulcata tortoise—named “Bobby Jr.”—to Apple reporter Tricia Whitaker. The reptile, which cannot travel on commercial flights, was left in the visiting clubhouse while the team searched for a new home.
