Brewers Replay Review Overturns Bucknor's First Base Call

A replay review overturned C.B. Bucknor's call that Brewers first baseman Jake Bauers missed first base, confirming the batter had stepped in the center of the bag. The call came after the new automated challenge system highlighted errors in Bucknor's judgment.

During the sixth inning of the Brewers’ game at American Family Field on March 31, umpire C.B. Bucknor ruled that Jake Bauers missed first base, calling him out. A replay review by manager Pat Murphy showed Bauers had stepped dead center, and the call was overturned.

Bucknor, 63, has umpired since 1996 and has been a target of the new home‑plate challenge system, which overturned six of his ball‑strike calls in a March 28 game. The incident underscores the growing influence of technology on umpiring decisions.
