Colts Optimistic About Ward's 2026 Future

Indianapolis Colts officials express optimism about cornerback Charvarius Ward's potential return for 2026 season, despite his three concussions last year.

Despite suffering three concussions during the 2025 season, Indianapolis Colts officials are optimistic about cornerback Charvarius Ward's future with the team for 2026. Ward expressed uncertainty about his NFL future after last season, noting he would likely retire if he suffered another concussion. However, general manager Chris Ballard and head coach Shane Steichen report Ward is now in a good frame of mind and indications are he wants to play next season.

Ward, who allowed a 57% completion rate on 37 targets with seven pass breakups in seven games last season, significantly impacted the Colts' defensive scheme when healthy. His ability to lock down half the field allowed the Lou Anarumo defense to operate more aggressively.
