Curt Cignetti: Indiana Can Play ND At Home 'Since They're Not In A Conference'
Earlier this month, a home-and-home series between the Indiana Hoosiers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish scheduled to take place from 2030-31 was called off, and Hoosiers head coach Curt Cignetti is disappointed about that — but also used it as an opportunity to throw shade at the Fighting Irish. "I'd like to play Notre Dame. They ought to come to our place twice, and we'll go up there once, since they're not in a conference," Cignetti said in an interview on the Big Ten Network. "It'd be a great in-state game. I guess there's a backstory to that." Of course, Indiana is coming off winning the National Championship for the first time in program history in what was its second year under Cignetti. Over Cignetti's two seasons in Bloomington (2024-25), the Hoosiers are a combined 27-2 overall and 17-1 in Big Ten play, making the College Football Playoff in both seasons. Meanwhile, Notre Dame was edged out of the College Football Playoff last season after going 10-2. That said, as Cignetti noted, the Fighting Irish aren't in a conference, as they're an independent. Now, while Indiana is indeed the defending College Football Playoff champion, it lost to Notre Dame in the first round of the 2024 College Football Playoff in a game played at South Bend, 27-17. The Hoosiers are also 5-24-1 in the all-time series, with the aforementioned playoff loss marking the two teams' first matchup since 1991, with Indiana last beating Notre Dame in 1950 — the last time they met in Bloomington. Indiana opens its 2026 season at home against the North Texas Mean Green on Sept. 5, with its Big Ten opener coming at home against the Northwestern Wildcats on Sept. 25. Devon Witherspoon, Seahawks agree to four-year extension
The first domino has fallen in the fourth-year cornerback contract standoff.
Devon Witherspoon has agreed to a four-year extension with the Seahawks, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
The deal is worth $132 million with $101 million guaranteed, which makes Witherspoon the highest-paid cornerback in league history.
Witherspoon was the No. 5 overall pick of the 2023 draft. He’s been selected to the Pro Bowl in each of his first three seasons, and was an integral part of the Seattle defense that won Super Bowl LX in February.
In his 43 career games, Witherspoon has recorded 32 passes defensed, two interceptions, and 4.5 sacks. He’s also recorded four passes defensed and a sack in his three postseason games.
With Witherspoon’s deal done, attention now turns to the Patriots and cornerback Christian Gonzalez. The No. 17 overall pick of the same draft, Gonzalez has also been seeking a contract extension in training camp. Gonzalez and Witherspoon share the same agent.

It still seems inevitable that Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald will emerge from two years of retirement to play alongside Myles Garrett. But there has still been no announcement from Donald, which strongly suggests he has still not made a final decision.
His target has been shifting. It went from early this week (Monday-ish) to late this week (Friday-ish). Now that the weekend has arrived, Donald has yet to make a decision.
Donald wants to be sure that he'll be the same guy he always was if he returns. But if Donald plans to make a firm and final decision before rejoining the Rams, he'll need to make a projection as to whether his efforts to get himself in football shape will translate to dominance on the practice field, and eventually during games.
Donald won't know for sure whether he can perform like he did until he tries to do it. And he seems to be taking as much time as he thinks he needs to decide whether, based on his workouts, he'll be able to pull it off.
If he returns, the Rams would ramp him up in the same way they did after 2017 and 2018 contract-driven holdouts. With three weeks and five days until the Week 1 game against the 49ers in Australia, at some point there may not be enough time to get him ready to play.
There's also the issue of a contract. Donald has one year remaining on the three-year post-Super Bowl deal that went into mothballs when he retired, at $30 million. The two sides will need to agree to payment terms and an acceptable structure for 2026 (if they haven't already done so).
Until Donald decides to return, there's a chance Donald won't. At some point, the absence of a decision will become a decision, as it relates to Week 1 and, perhaps, Week 2 and beyond.
Donald could, if he chooses, let it ride all the way until the Tuesday after Week 13, the deadline for reinstatement from the reserve/retired list. Which would get him on the field just in time for the first of two showdowns with the Seahawks, in Week 15.
Regardless, Donald is taking his time to make a decision. And the Rams, who are already the favorites to win the Super Bowl without him, don't seem to be inclined to force the issue.
