Benni McCarthy has called on Jose Mourinho to apologize for his "very wrong" comments following Vinicius Jr.'s alleged racial abuse during Real Madrid's 1-0 Champions League victory over Benfica. The former South Africa striker, who won the Champions League under Mourinho at Porto in 2004, said his former boss made a "mistake" with his remarks about Vinicius' celebration.
Mourinho, who was sent off during the match, had claimed Vinicius was "disrespectful" and used Benfica legend Eusebio as proof the club is not racist. Vinicius, who has faced numerous racist incidents throughout his career, later posted on Instagram: "Racists are, above all, cowards." Uefa has opened an investigation into the claims, which Benfica winger Gianluca Prestianni denies.
