Inter Milan Healthy Lead At Serie A Summit Allows Cristian Chivu To Focus On Champions League Comeback

Inter Milan steered ten points clear of AC Milan at the top of the Serie A table after the latter’s 1-0 home loss to Parma yesterday.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews, Inter’s huge lead at the summit allows the Nerazzurri to focus on the UEFA Champions League.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Manuel Akanji were on the scoresheet as Inter squeezed past Lecce on Saturday.

Indeed, a late 2-0 win at Stadio Via del Mare marked Inter’s seventh consecutive league victory.

However, the runaway Serie A leaders are facing an early elimination from the Champions League.

Despite Inter’s formidable league form, they suffered a dismal 3-1 defeat at Bodo/Glimt in the first leg of their knockout playoff tie.

Therefore, the Nerazzurri must pull off a huge second-leg comeback when the two sides renew hostilities at San Siro tomorrow night.

Furthermore, Cristian Chivu will be without talismanic captain Lautaro Martinez due to a calf injury.

Nevertheless, the Italian giants should take the field in a buoyant mood, having won seven of their last eight home outings in all competitions.
