Silver: Tanking Can Only Be Stopped By Draft Reform

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver acknowledges the league's tanking problem, stating that misaligned incentives between winning games and securing draft picks can only be fixed by revolutionizing the draft order system.

Silver admitted that when it comes to winning games versus securing top draft picks, the incentives are fundamentally misaligned. The only way to ensure full integrity of games, especially with legalized gambling, is to fully align these incentives, which requires completely changing how draft order is determined.

While tanking is more common in the NBA, it also occurs in the NFL, as evidenced by the Raiders reportedly shutting down stars Crosby and Bowers to secure the No. 1 overall pick last season.
