Turner Starts for USMNT in 5-2 Loss to Belgium

Matt Turner started for the US men’s national team in a 5-2 friendly loss to Belgium, his first start since June 10, 2025. Coach Mauricio Pochettino gave him the opportunity to prove himself.

Matt Turner was handed the starting role for the US men’s national team in Atlanta, his first appearance since June 10, 2025. The Stars and Stripes fell 5-2 to Belgium in the first of two friendlies at Mercedes‑Benz Stadium, but Turner made a number of saves, including a parry of Zeno Debast’s long‑range effort.

Head coach Mauricio Pochettino said he wanted to give Turner a chance after a year of relying on Matt Freese. Despite a solid start, Belgium’s attack broke through in the second half, with goals from Amadou Onana and others sealing the defeat.
