Drew Zundell, a former University High School state champion and current Syracuse Orange athlete, made history at a Boston meet on February 16th by becoming only the third runner from West Virginia to break the four-minute barrier in the mile. The SU sophomore crossed the finish line in 3:59.04, etching his name in both state and Syracuse University record books.
This achievement held special significance as former Syracuse coach Chris Fox, one of the two other West Virginians to have accomplished this feat, was present to witness Zundell's historic run. Zundell described it as a "full-circle moment" for him, noting that Fox had helped build Syracuse into what it is today and put their state on the running scene.
