Boland rocked by injury
A star Boland Cavaliers player is set to be sidelined for an extended period.
Coach Hawies Fourie confirmed to Netwerk24 that flyhalf Juan Mostert dislocated his shoulder during their 24-14 defeat to Griquas in Wellington.
Boland are still waiting on the results of a scan but the 26-year-old is expected to be out of action for a while. chincha.pl
Mostert has been deadly as a goal-kicker in the SA Cup this season, missing only one attempt at goal in five matches.
The former Maties and Bulls pivot joined Boland last year from Rovigo Delta, who he helped win the Italian Serie A Elite title.
SA CUP: Griquas stay perfect as Pumas run riot
Mostert was injured early in the game against log-leaders Griquas and replaced by James Tedder, who played mostly fullback last season but has experience at No 10.
The injury is a massive blow to Boland, who are in a battle to qualify for the semi-finals and secure a place in the Currie Cup Premier Division.
After the weekend’s matches, unbeaten Griquas top the SA Cup standings with 25 points, followed by Pumas and SWD Eagles (both 22), and the Cheetahs (18). Boland are a further three points back in fifth.

Kenya legend Wanyama hails Mustafa Kizza’s dead-ball brilliance, credits Thierry Henry influence
Kenyan legend Victor Wanyama has showered praise on Ugandan left-back Mustafa Kizza, describing him as one of the finest set-piece specialists in East Africa, in remarks shared via PitchSide.
The two developed a strong bond during their time at Major League Soccer outfit Montreal Impact (now called CF Montreal), where Wanyama arrived in March 2020 under the guidance of Arsenal great Thierry Henry.

Interestingly, Wanyama revealed that Henry had already identified Kizza as a standout talent even before the Kenyan midfielder joined the club.
According to Wanyama, Henry personally endorsed the Ugandan defender, highlighting his unique qualities and pushing for his recruitment, a signal that immediately raised expectations.
Upon linking up in Canada, Wanyama says it didn’t take long to see why Kizza was so highly rated.
Their chemistry on and off the pitch quickly flourished, with the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder applauding Kizza’s work ethic, adaptability, and impact in training sessions and matches alike.

Now 34, Wanyama who recently announced his retirement placed Kizza among the very best he has encountered from the region, particularly emphasizing his technical ability and delivery from dead-ball situations.
He noted that Kizza possesses the rare ability to whip in crosses from virtually any area on the pitch and consistently create scoring opportunities, even from deep positions.
Despite having played alongside several top Ugandan names such as Denis Onyango, Khalid Aucho, Hassan Wasswa, and Tony Mawejje, Wanyama singled out Kizza as truly exceptional.
While he acknowledged Onyango’s legendary status on the continent, Wanyama stressed that Kizza’s unique qualities make him stand out among his peers, with Aucho also earning praise for his consistency in midfield.
Since leaving MLS, Kizza has continued his career in Kenya with Nairobi United, while his relationship with Wanyama remains strong beyond their playing days.
The pair are reportedly exploring plans to organize a charity match in Kampala later this June, further underlining their lasting friendship.
NPFL: Finidi George eyes away form to boost Rivers United title charge
Rivers United coach Finidi George has stated that the club’s away form in their remaining 2025-26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) fixtures will be essential to their title charge during the final stretch of the season.
The Pride of Rivers moved into the top spot on Sunday following a 1-0 win over Plateau United in Port Harcourt, opening a two-point gap ahead of Enugu Rangers International.
Finidi sets sights on away form
Speaking after his side’s victory, Finidi reflected on the performance and expressed satisfaction with the result despite limited scoring chances.

“Away from home, we have to be better. That is key and we will strategies and see how we are going to get a good result in Kano.
It was a good one, we are quite happy with the win.
It was a match where we didn’t have so many scoring chances, but that shot that went in in the first half made it happen. We didn’t suffer much; it was a game we controlled properly, not much stress at the back, but we also didn’t create too many chances.”
Rivers will travel to face Kano Pillar
Finidi emphasized the importance of these away games in consolidating their lead.
Despite reclaiming the lead, Rivers United has missed opportunities to extend its advantage, leaving the title race finely poised with only four matches remaining.
Of those fixtures, Rivers will travel to face Kano Pillars on Matchday 35 and Wikki Tourists on Matchday 37. Between those trips, the Pride of Rivers will host Abia Warriors before rounding off their campaign at home against Katsina United on the final day of the season.
Three Kaizer Chiefs midfield signings – Part 3: The Bancé solution
Kaizer Chiefs are expected to further beef up central midfield depth next season, especially with the CAF Confederation Cup in sight.
This article is the third of three midfield player profiles with the skills and playing style to reshape Amakhosi in 2026/27.
After profiling Grant Margeman of Siwelele FC, and Golden Arrows midfield maestro Isaac Cisse, let’s talk about Ibrahim Bance of Marumo Gallants.
WHY KAIZER CHIEFS SHOULD LOOK AT IBRAHIM BANCÉ
Bance, primely aged 25, brings more than just energy in midfield, he offers real quality on the ball and creativity in tight spaces. He is a strong dribbler, able to beat defenders in 1v1 situations, and plays with real flair and an “it factor” which will make his an instant fan-favourite at Kaizer Chiefs.
He is also effective in passing situations, especially when it comes to controlling tempo. His passing range allows him to switch play and find teammates in advanced positions.
Statistically, he averages around 82.4% pass accuracy, with a strong 56.9% success rate in long balls. In addition, he has created six chances in 10 matches this season, along with 29 defensive contributions.
Kaizer Chiefs already have players like Lebohang Maboe who can influence games in similar areas, but consistency and availability remain key concerns over a long season. With squad rotation and possible departures, depth in midfield becomes even more important.
EXPERIENCE THAT BRINGS BALANCE TO MIDFIELD
His experience also adds value. Before arriving in South Africa, he came through the ASEC Mimosas system in Ivory Coast. He went on to play in Sweden for Helsingborgs IF and Real Monarchs in the United States, as well as in the Ivorian top flight. That mix of football cultures has shaped him into a more complete and adaptable midfielder.
In a Kaizer Chiefs side still trying to find consistency, a player like Bancé could offer balance, control, and reliability in the middle of the park.

Mourning Stormers ask ‘what would Chippie want’ against Connacht
The Stormers say they will use the hurt of losing team manager Christopher “Chippie” Solomon as motivation for this weekend’s clash with Connacht, rather than let grief distract them.
A visibly shaken Stormers boss, John Dobson, and veteran loose forward Deon Fourie said Monday that the Cape side would “never be the same” after news broke on Saturday of the demise of the long-standing Stormers staffer.
Dobson said that, although the club has plans in place to meet logistical needs, the passing had put them a day behind schedule in the buildup to Saturday afternoon’s United Rugby Championship match against Connacht at Cape Town Stadium.
Dobson reflected on the late team manager’s professionalism and attention to detail, coming from a match against Toulon in France, where everything ran impeccably.
‘Most of the guys were crying’
Fourie said he had known Solomon for decades, and joked the man had loved his children more than he did.
“In my first Super Rugby tour I shared a double bed with Chippie,” Fourie said. “He meant a lot to our family and me as a friend.”
Fourie said Solomon took pride in his work, and they could all “strive to be just a little bit like him”.
The Springbok, along with Dobson, said the Stormers would use their grief positively as they aim to finish the URC regular season top of the table so that they could host their playoffs, and the grand final.
“We had a good, long hour meeting this morning where we paid our respects. A few guys told some stories about Chippie and everyone laughed. Most of the guys were crying as well….
“I think we can use it as motivation, but there is a fine line as well between being positive and it being an Achilles heel in the lead-up to the game.”
Stormers aim to honour Chippie, win remaining matches
Dobson said that, while not detracting from the situation, he had asked players “what would Chippie want or what would Chippie do”.
“Not just emotions for the game, it’s how we want to be every day, how we want to prepare. It’s a hell of an important game. A desparate Connacht team who really put us under pressure before. We want to honour Chippie both in the formalities and how we play.”
Dobson appealed to fans to turn up to pay respects as well as support the team as they try to win the tournament for a second time.
“It’s a massive opportunity in very difficult circumstances. We want to both take the opportunity and do justice to Chippie.”
