Coupe nationale : 30 ans après, la SOA en finale
Avec le maintien presqu’acté en championnat, la SOA s'est logiquement qualifiée pour la finale de la Coupe nationale, jeudi 14 mai 2026, au Complexe Municipal de Bingerville, face à l'ASEC Mimosas. Au terme des tirs au buts (0-0, 4-1), les Militaires ont battu les Mimosas pour la troisième fois cette saison.

Après une rencontre âprement disputée, les deux formations n'ont pas pu se départager à l'issue du temps règlementaire. Il aura fallu la séance fatidique des pénaltys pour trancher.
Plus adroits et plus habiles, les Militaires ont fait un sans-faute lors de cette séance. Seul Zadi Benito a transformé son tir alors que Marc Glao a offert la finale aux siens en inscrivant le 4e tir de la SOA.
30 ans après son succès contre l'Africa Sports, la SOA retrouve la finale. Elle connaitra son adversaire à l'issue de la confrontation entre les Calaos et les Osalais, le 20 mai prochain.

Little AFCON-Sweetball : Des demies explosives !
Initialement prévues le 9 mai dernier, les deux dernières rencontres comptant pour les quarts de finale se sont disputées, jeudi 14 mai, au stade de Biafra. Grâce à leur victoire, l'Ethiopie et la Côte d'Ivoire ont rallié le carré d'as de la compétition.
La Côte d'Ivoire et le Maroc ont ouvert les hostilités dès 14h. Malmenés d'entrée, les Eléphants ont sorti le grand jeu pour renverser la vapeur à l'issue des trente premières minutes (5-2). Lors du second acte, ils se sont imposés face aux Lions de l'Atlas (3-0). Deux victoires nettes et sans bavure qui permettent aux ivoiriens de s'ouvrir la porte des demi-finales.
L'autre opposition a vu les éthiopiens prendre l'ascension. Après le nul lors du premier tiers-temps, l'Ethiopie remportaient les deux autres sur les scores de (1-0) et (5-0), validant ainsi leur billet pour le dernier carré.
A l'issue de cette partie du tournoi, Stéphane N'Da Kurambois s'est satisfait de la prestation des équipes même si certaines n'ont pas proprement assimilés les règles. « Depuis les premiers quarts de finale jusqu'à présent, nous avons vu de belles choses. La Côte d'Ivoire qui était ballottée par le Maroc a pu se relever. On a vu vers la fin les ivoiriens montrer leur niveau. Pour le moment, nous sommes satisfaits des quarts de finale. Nous pensons qu’au regard de tout ce que nous avons vu, les demi-finales seront vraiment des matches très chauds. La plupart des équipes ont essayé plus ou moins de s'adapter mais deux équipes qui n'ont pas quand même respecter. Sinon en dehors de cela, les autres se sont adaptés au concept », a confié le SG de la Little AFCON.
Pour une place en finale, Little Egypte devra se défaire de Little Bénin. De son côté, le champion en titre tentera d'écarte l'Ethiopie sur son passage. Les rencontres se joueront le 18 juillet.

FIFA requires that all World Cup squads be finalised between 25 May and 1 June. All of those will then be officially announced on 2 June. We can, therefore, expect provisional groups to be out before those dates. South Africa kicks off its campaign against Mexico on 11 June at Mexico City’s iconic Estadio Azteca in the tournament’s opening clash. Their other Group A opponents are South Korea and Czechia.

Mofokeng and Mbokazi will be integral to Bafana’s chances
Meanwhile, 21-year-old winger-cum playmaker Rele Mofokeng is expected to play a pivotal role in the Americas for Hugo Broos’ side. Kenya puts security top of the agenda ahead for 2027 AFCON
Kenya has continued to prioritise security for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as plans to host the continental sporting event gathers pace.
The Principal Secretary (PS) for Sports Elijah Mwangi said security remained a top priority for government as part of delivering a phenomenal AFCON 2027 for Kenya.

Speaking on Wednesday as he presided over the opening ceremony of a two-day CAF, LOC Security Workshop that brought together top security leaders in the country, the PS expressed his confidence with the preparations which would comply with CAF requirements.

“This workshop is very important in delivering a CAF compliant football event. For an event of PAMOJA AFCON 2027 magnitude, security is a central pillar towards successfully delivery of this great event,” he said.
“Ensuring their safety and guaranteeing a peaceful, secure and seamless tournament experience is therefore of utmost importance.”
Mwangi added: “An event of this scale and significance naturally presents complex security dynamics that require proactive planning, intelligence-led operations, strong inter-agency collaboration and continuous preparedness.
“Kenya is fully committed to delivering a secure environment that reflects our capability, professionalism and hospitality as a nation.”
Other stakeholders in the meeting were Football Kenya Federation and the Ministry of Sports at the Kasarani Stadium.
The workshop, which is organised by the United Nations’ office on Counter Terrorism in Sports comes at a time Kenya is stepping up preparations for the biannual continental football showpiece which is just 13 months away.
Confederation of African Football was represented by Head of Safety and Security Dr. Christian Emeruwa. The PS noted that the discussions in the workshop would focus on procedures and protocol of having a safe and secure environment for the tournament.
Among the key areas to be discussed in the meeting include reviewing successes that we registered during CHAN 2025, the challenges identified and mapping of venues.
AFCON opener set for June 19
Other areas key deliberations at the Kasarani workshop include crowd management, traffic marshaling, cross-border movements, airport and port of entry and exit, match and training venue security as well as security for the VIP guests among others.
FKF President Hussein Mohammed said there was need to intensify the training to ensure Kenya complied with all stringent CAF requirements.
“We must address all gaps to ensure we stage a unique tournament that provides unique fan experience for Kenya’s fans,” he said.
Mohammed reiterated the success of AFCON will largely depend on effective security measures. He further noted initiating these workshops early in the preparations is critical to ensure effective implementation, and expressed gratitude to CAF for its ongoing partnership in delivering a tournament of international standard.
Kenya Police Service including the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), the Kenya Defense Forces, the National Anti-Terrorism Centre and the National Disaster Operations Centre are among the attendees.
The PS said the infrastructure development was progressing well with the accelerated construction of match and training venues.
He was flanked by the Secretary Administrative at the State Department of Sports Evans Achoki, Football Kenya Federation president Hussein Mohammed and Kenya’s LOC chairperson Nicholas Musonye.
The opening match will be played on Saturday, June 19th, and the final on Saturday, July 17th, as per the dates approved by the FIFA Council at its recent meeting in Vancouver, Canada.
The 2027 AFCON will come after Morocco hosted the 2025 edition, which was widely praised as one of the best-organised in history.
