ALG : JS Saoura, la force tranquille d’un vice-champion
Après une saison éprouvante et sans faire de bruits, la JS Saoura a terminé non seulement sur le podium, mais vice-championne ce qui lui ouvre la voie de retrouver la Ligue des Champions africaine pour la troisième fois de son histoire. asg-reflektory.pl
Nombreux ceux qui attendaient le CR Belouizdad, l’USM Alger, la JS Kabylie, le MC Oran ou le CS Constantine, mais c’est finalement la JS Saoura qui a forcé le respect et terminé le championnat de Ligue 1 2025/2026 à la seconde place du classement, à dix points du champion incontesté, le MC Alger.
En accueillant le CS Constantine lors de dernière journée, les gars de la Saoura n’ont pas tremblé en réalisant une victoire sans bavure (3 – 1), qui leur ouvre la voie de terminer vice-champion et renouer, sept ans après, avec la compétition continentale pour la quatrième fois, deux fois en Ligue des Champions et une fois en Coupe de la Confédération.
La régularité de la JSS, depuis son accession parmi l’élite professionnelle, est devenue un modèle tant les sudistes se sont souvent mêlés aux grosses cylindrées du championnat, comme ce fut le cas cette saison, en terminant avec 16 victoires, 7 matchs nuls pour autant de défaites, totalisant 55 points, soit deux de plus que le CR Belouizdad qui se contentera de la Coupe de la Confédération où il accompagnera, comme la saison dernière, l’USM Alger, auréolée d’un second sacre en Coupe de la CAF, après 2023.
Emmenée, depuis cinq mois, par Abdelkader Amrani, un entraîneur chevronné et véritable globe-trotter du championnat algérien en remplacement du duo Lotfi Boudraa et Mustapha Djallit, la JSS s’est appuyée sur un effectif équilibré sans véritables vedettes, mais avec des joueurs talentueux et ambitieux qui ont imposé leur jeu sur tous les terrains.
Le gardien Abdelkader Salhi, Ilyas Faiçal Haddouche, Riyane Akacem, Abdelkader Boutiche, Ismaïl Saadi, Hamza Mouali, les ivoiriens Constant Wayou et Guy Stéphane Bédi, les nigérians Anas Yusuf et Alimi Sikiru, pour ne citer que ceux-là, ont laissé leur empreinte et leur impassibilité à gérer les moments difficiles de la saison, affichant de la solidarité de tous les instants.
En prévision de la prochaine saison, le club basé à Béchar devrait se renforcer davantage pour faire bonne figure lors de la plus prestigieuse compétitions interclubs, à condition de lever une contrainte de taille.
En effet, la direction de la JS Saoura a été interdite de recrutement par la FIFA pour cause de non-paiement d’un montant de 3 000 dollars représentant les frais de formation du joueur nigérian Michael Oghwishe, réclamés par l’Olympique de Sidi Bouzid (Tunisie), son club formateur.
Selon les dernières informations, l’administration est en voie de trouver une solution afin de lever cette contrainte et permettre d’envisager sa campagne de recrutement en toute quiétude.

URC semi-final: Three takeaways from the Stormers’ agonising defeat against Leinster
Leinster edged past the Stormers 20-11 at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday, booking a URC Grand Final date against the Bulls at Croke Park. The match turned on a dramatic two-minute collapse from the Stormers late in the second half.
LEINSTER FIND A WAY WHEN IT MATTERED MOST
Leinster’s path to Saturday’s semi-final carried unusual context. Their 35-0 hammering at the hands of the Stormers in Cape Town back in September now reads as a very different story. That night, Leo Cullen sent a heavily rotated side to South Africa with the regular season barely underway. Nine of Saturday’s starters and three bench players had never previously faced the Stormers in a URC match. That statistic tells its own story about how Leinster managed that earlier fixture.
Fast forward to Saturday, and Cullen’s first-choice side looked sharp from the first whistle. Rieko Ioane crossed in the eighth minute and Sam Prendergast added two penalties and a conversion to put the hosts 13-0 ahead by the 23rd minute.
The Stormers fought their way back to within two points at 13-11, and the match hung in the balance deep into the second half. This was when leaders stepped forward. Caelan Doris, Ronan Kelleher and Jamison Gibson-Park all produced when their team needed them most. Gibson-Park’s converted try in the 69th minute sealed the result after the Stormers imploded.
This performance follows the humiliation of last month’s 41-19 Champions Cup final loss to Bordeaux-Bègles in Bilbao. Getting to a URC Grand Final against the Bulls at Croke Park, despite that European heartbreak, reflects well on this squad’s collective mindset.
THE CARDS THAT SHATTERED THE STORMERS’ HOPES
The Stormers will replay the final 12 minutes of this match many times over the coming weeks. They had clawed their way back from 13 points down to within two at 13-11 midway through the second half. Their scrum caused Leinster genuine problems throughout, and they defended with real purpose despite the loss of Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu before the game even kicked off. John Dobson told his players at half-time to protect the ball and keep 15 men on the field. His message did not hold for long enough.
Winger Leolin Zas received a yellow card seven minutes into the second half for a deliberate knock-on. Leinster did not score during that period, and the Stormers actually reduced the deficit to two points while playing with 14 men. The damage came later. Replacement loose forward Ruan Ackermann cleared out Kelleher with a tucked shoulder to the head in the 68th minute. Referee Hollie Davidson showed the yellow card, which was then upgraded to red.
Within a minute, Gibson-Park danced over from the breakdown. Dobson accepted that call without complaint. What baffled him was the subsequent yellow card shown to replacement lock Salmaan Moerat at the same breakdown that led to the try. That decision left the Stormers with 13 players on the field. The contest was effectively over. The final penalty count read 11-7 against the Stormers, and the cards finished 3-0. That combination proved fatal.
A LOSING URC CAMPAIGN THAT DESERVES ITS OWN RESPECT
Dobson chose his words carefully after the final whistle. He said his side had dared to dream up until the 68th minute, and the numbers support that claim. The Stormers beat Leinster 35-0 in September. They beat Munster at Thomond Park during the regular season. They drew with Ulster in Belfast and hammered Glasgow 48-12 in Cape Town. They then beat Cardiff 44-21 in the quarter-final, despite conceding first in each half. That is a body of work that demands acknowledgment.
They made this semi-final genuinely uncomfortable for the defending champions. Their scrum won two penalties that kept them in the contest. Their halftime counter-ruck, sparked by Imad Khan’s big tackle, produced a turnover that denied Leinster a score at a crucial moment.
Dobson was frank about the limits of his squad. He did not want the injury list to sound like an excuse, but the absence of Feinberg-Mngomezulu, Cobus Reinach, Seabelo Senatla, JD Schickerling and Ruben van Heerden created genuine problems across the park.
The director of rugby told his players that, after a few days’ reflection, they would realise they had gone toe-to-toe with the best-resourced side in the competition and pushed them to the limit. He was not wrong.

Kiss puts on Wallabies hat after Reds defeat
Les Kiss says he had mixed emotions after his last game in charge of the Reds, with his focus now switching to his new role as Wallabies head coach.
Queensland crashed 46-24 to the Chiefs in Hamilton on Saturday to end their Super Rugby Pacific campaign and draw the curtain on three years at the helm for Kiss.
“Mixed emotions in a lot of ways. I’m bloody proud of the boys and gutted for them at the same time,” Kiss said.
With the Brumbies also losing their playoff game – a crushing 66-12 loss to the Hurricanes – there will be no Australian teams in the semi-finals.
Kiss said he did not think it was a fair representation of where Australian rugby was at.
“I think you’ve got to just recognise that the Kiwi teams have been in pretty good form most of the year,” he said.
“We’ve certainly been improving week-on-week and we went hammer and tongs and just a few moments that they profited on.
“I think the comp’s still in a good place.”

Australian rugby now turns its attention to the inaugural Nations Championship, with the Wallabies hosting Ireland, France and Italy in July.
Current Australia coach Joe Schmidt will be in charge for those three games before handing the baton to Kiss.
His first matches at the helm will be back-to-back clashes against Eddie Jones’ Japan in August, but he will shadow Schmidt during the Nations Championship.
Kiss was an assistant to Schmidt when he was Ireland coach.
SQUAD: Rassie calls up forgotten Boks, rookies
Reds skipper Fraser McReight is all but certain to feature in Schmidt’s final three Tests and he said the Wallabies would be in safe hands when Kiss takes over.
“Les has been huge [over the last three years],” he said after the Chiefs game. “I think you are seeing all the senior players playing their best footy under Les and that’s no coincidence.”
Former Scotland and Fiji coach Vern Cotter, currently at the Blues, is taking over from Kiss at the Reds.
