Barcelona’s ex-treasurer makes huge claim about veteran star’s renewal – ‘No, not in principle’

Speaking in an interview with Culemania, Ferran Olive, the FC Barcelona treasurer under Joan Laporta, has made a huge claim about the future of veteran striker Robert Lewandowski.

The 37-year-old superstar is in the final few months of his contract at the club, and so far, there have been no efforts to extend his deal.

While it has not been entirely ruled out that Lewandowski will continue at Barça, early indications suggest that he could be in the last phase of his stint at Camp Nou.

And, Olive, who stepped down as the club treasurer in February, when Laporta resigned as president to contest for the upcoming elections, has claimed that there are no plans for Barcelona to renew Lewandowski.

“No, not in principle. I would say no,” said Olive, when asked if there were any plans to extend the veteran superstar’s contract.

Not stopping there, Olive also revealed that Barcelona had already begun the search for a top striker in the market, and that they were only €12-14 million short of returning to the 1:1 Financial Fair Play rule, which will allow them to operate freely in the summer.

“We’re at €12-14 million to enter the 1:1,” Olive revealed.

“Barcelona is in a position to do so, and in fact, Barcelona is currently looking for a top striker,” the ex-treasurer further added.

Lewandowski, for his part, has been patient with the matter of his future, while waiting for Barcelona to make an approach. He has an offer from MLS club Chicago Fire and interest from Saudi Arabia persists as well.

As for potential replacements, Barcelona like Julian Alvarez the most, although a move for the Atletico Madrid forward will be difficult to pull off this summer.
