The defensive backs were the focus of the NFL Scouting Combine on Thursday, and as a defense-needy team, the Cincinnati Bengals were present and active, not only watching players but meeting with them as well. The Bengals staff got to spend time with several players, including one with a ton of upside.
According to Malik Wright of The Wrightway Sports Network, cornerback Jermod McCoy was one of a few defensive backs that Cincinnati met with on Thursday
McCoy, who missed all of the 2025 season with a torn ACL, has been mocked to the Bengals by multiple outlets, and many believe he would be a top 10 prospect in the entire draft had he been healthy at the University of Tennessee this past season.
The Bengals need help at essentially every level of their defense, and with Cam Taylor-Britt almost certainly playing elsewhere next season, there will be a hole in the cornerback room. Pair that with uncertain contract situations for Dax Hill and emerging star DJ Turner II, and the Bengals could roll the dice on a boom-or-bust prospect at a premier position.
They have taken those kinds of risks before, with some paying off and some ending in disaster. Ja’Marr Chase sat out the 2020 season due to COVID and came into the NFL without missing a beat. On the other hand, the Cedric Ogbuehi pick was essentially a bust after they overlooked his injury and time missed in college.
How would you feel if McCoy were the selection at 10th overall? Let us know in the comments!
