On Wednesday, the South Bay Lakers got an easy 113-99 win over the Valley Suns. On Thursday, the two teams faced off again at Mullett Arena in Tempe, Ariz., as the Lakers wrapped up a four-game road trip.
This time, the Suns got out to an early lead and were up 28-9 at one point. But South Bay turned it on afterward. It ended the first quarter down by just five points, and it led 60-47 at halftime before extending its lead to as many as 31 points. It prevailed by a final score of 129-98 for its fifth consecutive win, and it shot 55.1% from the field while holding the Suns to 29.4% 3-point shooting and four fast-break points.
Guard Nick Smith Jr. came off the bench to score a game-high 30 points on 13-of-16 field-goal shooting while adding six rebounds, four assists and two steals in 30 minutes. Big man Drew Timme had 25 points, plus eight rebounds, five assists, three steals and one block.
In 23 minutes, Bronny James shot 5-of-10 from the field and finished with 12 points, two rebounds, one assist and two steals.
The Lakers remain in fourth place in the G League's Western Conference with a 15-8 record, but they're tied in the standings with the third-place Rio Grande Valley Vipers and are just one game behind the first-place Mexico City Capitanes.
