Welcome to Music City Miracles’ Tennessee Titans 2026 NFL Free Agency Primer! The negotiating window period begins on March 9th, but the Titans are able to re-sign their own free agents before then. General manager Mike Borgonzi is equipped with more than $100 million in cap space and will collaborate with new head coach Robert Saleh on their shared vision for the 2026 Titans.

The Titans are currently scheduled to possess 29 free agents (19 unrestricted), including several key starters and role players. Over the next few weeks, we’ll take an in-depth look at each free agent and provide arguments for why the Titans should, or shouldn’t re-sign that player. We’ll also offer our final verdict and a prediction to go along with our analysis.

Today, we’re analyzing tight end Chig Okonkwo.

Why the Titans should re-sign Okonkwo

Okonkwo is a legitimate pass-catching weapon. Having out-produced his draft slot, the former Maryland standout has accumulated three straight seasons of 50-plus catches while averaging over 500 receiving yards per campaign. This past season, Okonkwo led the Titans in receiving while displaying legitimate chemistry with franchise quarterback Cam Ward.

Why the Titans should let Okonkwo walk

Okonkwo has reached his ceiling as a player and also has deficiencies the Titans must account for. An undersized playmaker, Okonkwo is among the worst blocking tight ends in the NFL. New offensive coordinator Brian Daboll may prefer a more well-rounded player at that position. The Titans also drafted Gunnar Helm to prepare for his inevitable departure.

Projected Contract

Spotrac projects Okonkwo to sign a three-year, $23,895,012 million contract in free agency. That would pay him an average annual salary of $8 million. Among pending free-agent tight ends, Okonkwo has the fifth-highest predicted market value, trailing the likes of Kyle Pitts and Isaiah Likely.

Final verdict

The Titans probably aren’t interested in re-signing Okonkwo. He’s earned a sizable pay-raise elsewhere and the Titans have been preparing for the inevitable by drafting Helm. Both sides appear interested in a mutual split.

Prediction

Okonkwo leaves the Titans and signs elsewhere.
