2 Colts' free agents named 'best team fits' for AFC South… — and more

2 Colts' free agents named 'best team fits' for AFC South rivals

ESPN's Matt Bowen recently selected the best team fits for his top 50 NFL free agents, and included on this list were three of the Indianapolis Colts' free agents.

So, where does Bowen think that each of these players should end up?

10. OT Braden Smith

For a number of years now, Smith has provided the Colts with a steady presence at right tackle. An injury, unfortunately, ended his 2025 season early. In his place, rookie Jalen Travis took over and held his own.

Just as the Colts let Will Fries and Ryan Kelly walk last offseason in favor of Tanor Bortolini and Matt Goncalves, perhaps they do the same with Smith.

Bowen named the Houston Texans as the best fit for Smith.

"Elevating the offensive line in front of quarterback C.J. Stroud must be a priority for the Texans, and Smith would be an upgrade over free agent right tackle Trent Brown," Bowen wrote.

No. 6: WR Alec Pierce

Re-signing Alec Pierce should be a priority for the Colts. Beyond his big play ability, he's shown he can attack other levels of the field, and his vertical presence opens up opportunities for others with the spacing he helps create. He is a candidate to receive the franchise tag.

Bowen selected the Tennessee Titans as Pierce's best fit.

"I like Pierce in Tennessee under new offensive coordinator Brian Daboll," wrote Bowen. "Pierce has the vertical stretch ability to produce down the field and can play a volume role as a multilevel target for quarterback Cam Ward."

No. 4: QB Daniel Jones

There doesn't seem to be much mystery around Jones' future. All signs -- and reports -- point to him re-signing with the Colts. Like Pierce, Jones is a candidate to receive the franchise tag.

Bowen agrees that Jones returning to Indianapolis makes the most sense.

"In Indianapolis, Jones can play as a facilitator in coach Shane Steichen's offense, backed by a productive run game," wrote Bowen. "While the timetable on his return from an Achilles injury is still uncertain, we know the fit works once Jones is cleared to play. Jones displayed more poise in 2025 with the Colts, and he threw with a much stronger sense of timing."

Jorge Masvidal has announced a major cash tournament as his bare-knuckle MMA promotion makes its return.

Since stepping away from the cage, the former BMF champion and welterweight contender has turned his attention to promoting, even introducing a glove-free version of MMA. His latest venture is a pair of tournaments, each with a $500,000 prize on offer.

This event will be Masvidal’s first time back in the promotional spotlight since November 2024. Gamebred Bare-Knuckle MMA has put on five events so far, following standard unified rules but without gloves.

Jorge Masvidal told MMAJunkie that he is moving forward with plans to stage two 16-man tournaments, each offering a $500,000 prize. The King of Miami will be bringing together heavyweights and lightweights to compete in the no-gloves format as he steps back into the world of promotion.

“I don’t mind taking the loss [from a smaller gate] for making a huge statement online,” Masvidal said. “We’re giving as much money as we can to the fighters.

“Really, who’s doing anything right now? It’s just worked out perfectly. As I wasn’t able to pump so much GFC, the other shows were kind of dying off.

“And now, I don’t know about these other shows. I haven’t heard a date or anything. So we’re coming in strong these next few years. People are going to have to move aside, brother.”

Anthony Smith to return in Jorge Masvidal’s tournament

Anthony Smith is set to come out of retirement less than a year after hanging up his gloves. He’ll take on former UFC heavyweight Chase Sherman at the event on April 10. Smith had received an emotional farewell from the sport’s top promotion, but it didn’t take long for him to feel the urge to step back into competition.

In addition to that matchup, Guto Inocente is lined up to face Mohammed Usman, despite being under suspension for a positive drug test. The rest of the card includes Alexandr Romanov vs Nikolay Kovalenko and Todd Duffee vs Bruno Cappelozza.

The remaining four heavyweight contests are expected to be finalised soon, along with all eight lightweight pairings.

NBA Power Rankings: Thunder, Pistons lead contenders entering 2nd half

Using Phil Jackson's '40-20 rule,' which dictates contenders must win 40 games before 20 losses, the rankings highlight the Oklahoma City Thunder (42-14) and Detroit Pistons (40-13) as the top teams. The San Antonio Spurs are close, while the Boston Celtics are an outside shot.

Below the top tier, the Sacramento Kings are holding onto coach Doug Christie despite their 12-44 record, while the Washington Wizards are sidelined by injuries to Anthony Davis and Trae Young.
