Chicago Fire FC Breaks Ground on $750m Stadium

Chicago Fire FC has begun building a $750m stadium at The 78 in the South Loop, the first major professional venue in Chicago in over 30 years.

The club, led by owner Joe Mansueto and president Dave Baldwin, broke ground on the new 22,000‑seat stadium on the Chicago River. Designed by Gensler and developed by Related Midwest, the privately funded project will feature a grass pitch, a dedicated supporters section and public plazas.

The venue is slated to open for the 2028 MLS season and will host soccer matches, concerts and other community events, reinforcing Chicago Fire FC’s commitment to investing in the city’s sports and entertainment landscape.
