Govt orders cricket body to drop 'India' from name

The Union sports ministry has directed the Differently Abled Cricket Council of India to remove 'India' from its name as it is not a recognized National Sports Federation.

The Union sports ministry has asked the Differently Abled Cricket Council of India (DCCI) to stop using the words 'India' or 'Indian' in its name and activities, stating that the body is not recognized as a National Sports Federation (NSF). Only government-recognized federations are permitted to use these terms.

DCCI secretary Ravi Kant Chauhan confirmed receiving the notice and requested that the council be granted NSF status. Similar directives were sent to other sports organizations including the Women's Football Federation of India and the Indian Body Builders' Federation. With the National Sports Governance Act now in force, all sports bodies must seek recognition from the National Sports Board.
