Lions Trade David Montgomery to Texans

The Detroit Lions traded running back David Montgomery to the Houston Texans on March 2, saving about $3.5 million in cap space.

The Lions sent Montgomery, who had a reduced role in 2023, to the Texans in exchange for a draft pick. The move frees up roughly $3.5 million in salary‑cap room for Detroit.

Montgomery, 29, was slated to earn $6 million in his first year of a two‑year extension. Lions GM Brad Holmes said the trade was a way to move forward after the 2023 season.
