New Football Rule: 1-Minute Treatment Wait

Football's international law-making body IFAB is set to approve a new rule requiring players who receive treatment on the field to wait one minute on the sidelines before returning to play.

The new rule, aimed at combating time-wasting, will be adopted during IFAB's annual general assembly this Saturday. Currently, no football regulations specify exactly how long a treated player must remain off the field, with leagues like the Premier League having implemented their own guidelines such as the 30-second rule introduced in the 2023/24 season.

The move comes as many in football have long called for a standard rule to limit players' ability to feign injuries to delay matches.
