Padres Sign Castellanos, Canning, Márquez

The Padres have agreed to terms with former Phillies slugger Nick Castellanos and right‑handers Griffin Canning and Germán Márquez, a source said.

Nick Castellanos, a two‑time All‑Star who spent four seasons with the Phillies, will join the Padres for a $780,000 minimum after Philadelphia pays nearly all of his $20 million salary. The veteran outfielder is expected to compete for a first‑base spot as San Diego seeks a new starter after parting ways with Luis Arraez.

Pitchers Griffin Canning and Germán Márquez arrive to fill the back of the rotation, which is currently led by Nick Pivetta, Joe Musgrove and Michael King. Both right‑handers could vie for the two open spots, with Canning’s recent injury history and Márquez’s experience adding depth to a roster that lost Dylan Cease and closer Robert Suarez in free agency.
