Shakhtar Owner Donates $200k to Ukraine Skeleton Racer

Ukrainian skeleton racer Vladyslav Heraskevych received $200,000 from Shakhtar Donetsk owner after being disqualified from the Winter Olympics for wearing a helmet commemorating fallen Ukrainian athletes.

Vladyslav Heraskevych, 27, was barred from competing at the Milano Cortina Winter Games when the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation ruled that imagery on his helmet depicting Ukrainian athletes killed since Russia's invasion in 2022 breached rules on athletes' expression.

The donation from Shakhtar Donetsk's owner equals the prize money Ukraine pays to its gold medalists, according to the football club's statement on Tuesday.
