4 takeaways from Jets head coach Aaron Glenn at the 2026 NFL combine

The New York Jets and rest of the NFL are in business mode at the 2026 NFL combine in Indianapolis throughout this week.

Along with nitpicking and chatting to prospects entering the upcoming draft, New York's front office spoke at interviews of their own... namely general manager Darren Mougey and head coach Aaron Glenn.

With that, here are four takeaways from Glenn's combine press conference:

Defensive responsibility

Glenn said he has a "superpower." He's going to unleash it in 2026.

Glenn said next season he will call plays for the Jets defense, not coordinator Brian Duker.

On Frank Reich

In hiring Frank Reich as offensive coordinator, Glenn adds more NFL experience to his coaching staff. While Reich was a former head coach in the league, Glenn more noted positives about Reich's recent college coaching experience above that.

"I think that's another notch in our belt," Glenn said.

More from Glenn on Reich:

Who else was involved in hirings

Mougey and Glenn both had a part in hiring assistants to Glenn's coaching staff this offsesaon, that was obvious.

There was another character involved in that process for that Jets: Senior advisor Rick Spielman. He's a bit of a forgotten figure but in the building but has his fingers on the operation.

Why not Wink?

Along with Duker, longtime NFL defensive coordinator Wink Martindale was considered a finalist for the Jets DC job this offseason. Did Duker get it because Glenn wanted to call plays and Martindale did not like that? Or were some rumors team owner Woody Johnson nixing a Wink hire true?

Glenn said Martindale was still interested in the end but there was one overriding reason why Glenn wanted Duker. It was Glenn's past experience working with Duker while with the Detroit Lions.

“There’s nothing more valuable than having that relationship with someone," Glenn said. "As I thought about the whole situation, Brian Duker has been with me for three years, has been through the fire with me."
