Filipe Luis sacked by Flamengo after 8-0 win

Former Chelsea defender Filipe Luis was sacked as Flamengo manager just hours after the club's 8‑0 win over Madureira. His departure ends a trophy‑laden spell that saw Flamengo win seven titles in 100 matches.

Flamengo announced the dismissal of Filipe Luis, 40, at 00:59 local time, hours after the club's 8‑0 second‑leg victory that secured an 11‑0 aggregate win over Madureira. The former Chelsea defender, who took over from Tite in September 2024, will not be in charge for the upcoming Carioca final against Fluminense.

Luis guided Flamengo to seven titles in 100 matches, including the 2025 Copa Libertadores and the 2024 Campeonato Carioca. He also won the Premier League with Chelsea in 2015 and has claimed Serie A, Copa do Brasil, Supercopa do Brasil, FIFA Challenger Cup and FIFA Derby of the Americas honours.
